CLASS SCHEDULE

Central Street Yoga offers the perfect entry point for students of all levels of fitness, including those who have never done yoga, can’t touch their toes, are overweight or are recovering from injuries.

New yogis who want a workout but are just beginning to explore yoga’s possibilities, the Basics class is a perfect choice.

Practicing yogis who are ready to dive deeper into all aspects of your yoga practice, try our Stage 2 Kripalu, Ashtanga Yoga, Beginner/Intermediate and Intermediate/Advanced level classes which move at a more vigorous tempo and consistently explore the more advanced poses.

New yogis and practicing yogis who might prefer a slower and more meditative style of yoga, try our Gentle, Kripalu Gentle and Yin Yoga classes.

For everybody an unguided Meditation is offered every Wednesday morning after the Yin Yoga class. (Guided meditation workshops will also be offered throughout the year.)

For our moms-to-be, we have Prenatal yoga classes.

Twice a year we offer an Absolute Beginner series for the unitiated and curious. This 4-session series breaks down in detail the fundamental concepts of a yoga practice and is designed to give the student the tools to either develop a home practice or continue within the framework of any of our regularly scheduled classes.

Yoga Class Descriptions:

Gentle - for anyone seeking a slower, meditative experience. Postures are approached with great care and allow the student to gradually explore their flexibility at an unhurried pace. Recommended for students with recovering injuries. No previous experience necessary.

Basics - for new yogis. The basic postures of yoga are explained and explored with an emphasis on alignment and breath.

Beginner/Intermediate - the next step for students wanting to expand their exposure to asana practice to include more varied and slightly more energetic postures with an emphasis on alignment and breath.

Intermediate/Advanced - a more challenging class for experienced students as well as beginners with a higher fitness level to explore more ambitious standing and seated asanas, inversions and balance postures.

Ashtanga Yoga (Power Yoga) - a smooth and vigorous practice that purifies and realigns the body, cultivating strength, flexibility and endurance, and leading to a natural state of meditation. Regular practice of Ashtanga will help internalize the practice, deepen the experience of self, and bring joy and peace as the practice becomes more meditative over time. The class is based upon the Primary Series of Ashtanga as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.

Kripalu Gentle - This class focuses on different breathing techniques, exercises that warm the body, and postures that can be modified for all ability levels. Meditation will be incorporated and the focus throughout class is on witnessing sensation and breath.

Stage 2 Kripalu - This class is a heartfelt yoga practice for intermediate level students who are ready to explore the balance between willfulness and surrender on and off the mat.  Through longer holdings in more challenging postures, a transformational energetic healing space opens up.  Asana, pranayama and meditation are employed in this body/mind/spirit approach to cultivate deep awareness and equanimity that can be integrated into our lives, our practices and our consciousness.

Yin Yoga - practiced closer to the ground and focusing primarily on seated and reclined postures. This style of yoga emphasizes sustained postures that target the joints associated with the core muscles of the thighs, hips and lower spine. The philosophy of Yin Yoga is functionality over form and invites the practitioner to discover and explore his own unique joint and flexibility capabilities.
Yin Yoga and Meditation - On Wednesday mornings, the Yin Yoga practice will be 55 minutes, followed by a 5-minute transition period leading into an unguided, 30-minute meditation (optional).

Prenatal Yoga - Prenatal Yoga Class will focus on gentle postures specifically designed for the journey of pregnancy with an emphasis on breathing, relaxation, and muscle toning. This class can help alleviate many of the common discomforts of pregnancy and help the body prepare for labor by learning to stretch and strengthen key muscles, focus and relax the mind, control breathing and develop awareness. Prenatal Yoga will assist with the strengthening of the pelvic muscles, improve circulation, aid in digestion, exercise the spine and increase overall comfort throughout pregnancy.
